Mauline Akinyi

Mauline is a 17-year-old girl who lives in the Kawangware slums with her mother and five siblings. As the oldest child, she carries a great deal of responsibility. The entire family shares a small, one-room home made of sheet metal.

Her mother, Beatrice, made the difficult decision to leave her husband after discovering that he had been abusing Mauline. During a time when Beatrice had to travel to another village for work, she entrusted the children to their father. Upon her return, she learned of the abuse and immediately sought help through Heart to Heart Orphans Children Centre (HTHOCC), where the case was reported to the proper authorities.

Since then, Beatrice has been doing her best to care for her six children on her own. With no steady source of income, she relies on temporary work to provide even the most basic necessities for her family.

Despite these hardships, Mauline has a joyful spirit and loves singing in her free time. With the opportunity to attend school like her peers, she can take an important step toward achieving her dream of becoming a doctor.
